We're getting ready to go

Tomorrow we set off on our great adventure. But I really wanted to share a couple more pictures from last year's trip with you. One of the coolest things was taking pictures of the villagers, I don't they have seen a digital camera before. So, once you took their pictures you might end up with the whole family or you would see them go pose with someone else just to have their pictures taken again. This one elderly lady went from volunteer to volunteer and posed for close to 20 pictures. Here she is with our daughter Jackie:

Oh, and the kids... I fell in love with the kids, especially with this little boy:

He's such a doll, how could you resist this face?

Oh and imagine your response when you get out of your transport to view this sea of people all waiting to see your group--500-800 people per day... YIKES

Oh my goodness, makes me appreciate the waiting room in the ER back home!

Stay tuned for more news!

Honduras Medical Mission—Spring 2008

As we get ready to leave for our 2nd Medical Mission to Honduras. We thought it would be nice to fill our friends in about what we did last year. We went on a 7 day trip to Gracias, Honduras, as part of the group from the UCSD chapter of Global Medical Brigades (for more info see: http://www.globalbrigades.org/project/medical/); this was Susan's first medical mission.

It was a wonderful experience which leaves the volunteer feeling blessed for such an opportunity. We worked from morning to night but it was so worth it. In addition to being exposed to the plight of medical care in a poor country, we were enriched by the presence of student volunteers, whose warm spirits and dedication amazed us. Please don't think it was all work and no play, because we did have our play time and attended some very cool cultural events.
